A Dream Came True for…
House Stephanie, who came to the program with a dream—to own a home.  Stephanie joined the FSS program in October of 1997 with several goals in mind.  She wanted to complete her education in Surgical Technology, find a job where she could use her education and skills, pay off her debt, and learn more about home ownership.  Stephanie worked together with the FSS Coordinator to outline a plan to meet these goals.

In January 1998, she attended a Home Buyer’s Education course sponsored by Housing Assistance Corporation, where she learned about home ownership.  Stephanie completed her Surgical Technology certificate in April, 1998 and found employment with a local dentist.  As a participant in the FSS Program, Stephanie was able to escrow money in an account when she became employed.  Due to periodic increases in her income, by 2001, she was able to escrow more than $400.00 per month into her account.  When Stephanie graduated in November, 2001, she had accumulated $15,274.00 in escrow money.  She used a portion of this money to pay off her entire credit card and car loan debt, and the remainder was used at the closing of her new home.

Stephanie is an outstanding example of perseverance and commitment to the FSS Program, where our goal is to help participants fulfill their dreams.  Upon graduation, Stephanie wrote:  “This is a wonderful program that isn’t difficult but really works.  You just have to stick with it and the results are great…This program has allowed me to have the knowledge and the funds to be buying my first home.”
