Welcome to Silvermont

Joseph Simpson Silversteen and his wife Elizabeth moved to Transylvania County from Pennsylvania in 1902.

In 1917 construction was completed on a 33-room colonial revival house with spacious grounds on East Main Street in Brevard which became known as Silvermont. This was to be their home for the rest of their lives.

And although the Silversteens are all now deceased, through a donation of the property to the citizens of Transylvania County, their legacy lives on in the Silvermont Opportunity Center.

The mission of the Silvermont Opportunity Center is to invigorate and enhance the quality of life for adults over the age of sixty in Transylvania County.

We provide a range of services, activities, programs, and opportunities designed to encourage active aging and improve the health & well-being of older adults in our community.
